Klarna

Klarna can be notorious difficult to get set up correctly. There are multiple parameters that most line up in order for the widget to show up. The things we need to be aware of are the following:

  • Environment

  • Account key

  • Klarna Store ID

  • Klarna placement data key

Setting up in Strata

The first thing we need to add is the "Account Key" to the Klarna app settings. This "Account key" can be found by logging into Klarna's portal. Klarna operates with two different environments, "Production" and "Playground", so depending on what you're trying to set up you have to log in to the appropriate portal.

Both portals have different logins, so your login for the production portal will not work for the playground and vice versa.

Now go to the On-site messaging section and select your store. This where it starts to get a little bit more complicated. First off because the stores just have non-meaning IDs and secondly because they slightly differ between the production and the playground portal.

Use this table as a helper at the time of writing.

On the next screen you will find the "Account key" for the specific environment and store. Look for data-client-id, the value of this is your "Account key".

Now that we have you "Account key" we can enter that into the settings screen for our Klarna app in Strata. Also select the environment from which you retrieved the "Account key" from.

The next step is to select and/or design the placement that should be used and displayed on the site. Again, head over to the Klarna portal and select "Placements" under "On-site messaging" in the sidebar. Make sure you have the right store selected at the top and find the type of placement that you wish to use. Now look for the data-key of the corresponding placement and copy that.

Last step is to go to the section in Strata for the product you want the Klarna widget to appear on. In this case for Birch you will find a field to enter the "Klarna placement data key" that we just found.

Now, if everything was hooked up correctly, you should see the Klarna widget show up on the page. If not, then Klarna probably changed something, again...
